PhD Position in Theoretical-Mathematical Physics

University of Duisburg-Essen

If you are excited by the interaction between advanced mathematics and modern physics, check out this announcement!

Topological matter prompted an avalanche of developments in Physics and Mathematics, including applications in optical and electronic devices and quantum information. However, many fundamental issues are still open. In particular, a deeper understanding of generic and statistical properties is urgently called for. In a joint German–Israeli project, we want to address this with the help of Random Matrix Theory and Supersymmetry. The project involves advanced mathematics and is analytical, but some numerics might also be necessary.

We have a PhD Position to fill (three years, 75% of a full time position, additional 10% with two hours of teaching per week possible). Experience in demanding analytical calculations is helpful, but not mandatory. More important is enthusiasm for mathematical physics and willingness to learn advanced new methods.

Your application contains: curriculum vitae, copies of your university certificates, if applicable copies of your publications. Send your application to: Professor Thomas Guhr and PD Dr. Daniel Waltner, Fakultat fur Physik, Universitat Duisburg–Essen, Lotharstraße 1, 47048 Duisburg, Germany, or as e–mail to and Very important: Arrange two recommendation letters, to be send directly to Thomas Guhr or Daniel Waltner, preferably by e–mail. State the names of those you asked for such a letter in the application. This announcement is valid until the position is filled.
