PHD POSITION IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS AND DATA ANALYSIS

Are you fascinated by interdisciplinary analyses of complex systems? — If yes, you might be
interested in this position.

Complex systems with thousands of interacting participants often behave in a surprising way
and can strongly react to local influences, similar to phase transitions. In this project we
analyse traffic on the freeway network which strongly reacts to construction sites, major social
events, weather conditions or accidents. In particular we want to investigate correlations of
traffic flow in freeway networks, in a joint project with the group of Michael Schreckenberg.

We will analyse large amounts of data. The project combines statistical research and the
development of new methods and models based on empirical information.

We have a PhD Position (three years, 100% of a full time position) to fill. Good programming
skills are helpful, but not mandatory. More important is enthusiasm for interdisciplinary work
and complex systems and great interest in data analysis. You should enjoy working in a team!
