Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Clinical-track faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Purdue University has a strong existing program in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and the successful applicant will join a team of five American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Small Animal (ACVIM-SA) boarded internists with interest areas in endocrinology, gastroenterology, immune-mediated disease, infectious diseases, infection control, respiratory disease, nephrology, interventional urology, and hemodialysis and extracorporeal therapies. The section works with and is well-supported by a team of board-certified specialists in other areas including anesthesiology, behavior, cardiology, clinical and anatomic pathology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, neurology, nuclear medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, physical rehabilitation, radiology, and surgery. Available equipment includes Olympus and Storz endoscopes, urodynamics instruments, a holmium-YAG laser, hemodialysis machines, C-arm fluoroscopy, a 64-slice CT scanner, and a 1.5T MRI.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and board certification or completion of a Small Animal Internal Medicine residency program registered by the ACVIM or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM). Salary and rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University. 

Responsibilities

The candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the PVM and the VCS department. Learning: Participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM and veterinary nursing curricula, clinical teaching in the Purdue Veterinary Hospital (PVH), and participation in training house officers. Faculty also participate in university-wide graduate programs (MS and PhD). Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to patients of the PVH (typical clinical time commitment is approximately 60%); supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Back up emergency call is shared with other faculty. Discovery: All faculty are expected to collaborate on clinical research projects. The PVM is situated on the Purdue campus, allowing for a wide array of research opportunities. There is a clinical trials core to help facilitate clinical research, and a departmental research laboratory to support VCS faculty benchtop research. Service and Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations and community service, delivery of continuing education programs, and other appropriate activities are encouraged.

General Information

The PVH recently underwent a major expansion project. The Small Animal Internal Medicine facilities include two endoscopy rooms, a minor procedures room, a dialysis facility, separate dog and cat holding facilities and treatment areas, a student rounds room, and doctor and nurse workrooms. The new complex provides state-of-the-art teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty to provide top quality compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.
