Economics, Law, Social Sciences and International Affairs (HSG) - is inviting applications

to start on 1 February 2021 or by arrangement with an ideal employment level of 50-75%,
at the Institute for Public Finance, Fiscal Law and Law and Economics (IFF-HSG). The
initial appointment is for three years, extendable to six years. The intention is that after six
years, at least one of the two positions will change to a permanent position as Associate

To be considered for this position, the applicant will have a Ph.D. and a proven academic
track record in tax law or tax policy. The position entails research and teaching as well as
active engagement in raising the profile of IFF-HSG in executive education. This
advertisement is primarily aimed at academics with a background in law, but applications
from individuals with a background in business administration or public economics are
also welcome as long as they are willing to teach tax law courses on law programs. We are
looking in particular (but not exclusively) for candidates with a research focus on:

- Indirect taxes (in particular VAT and custom)
- National and/or international tax policy

In addition to making a visible contribution to the international academic debate, the
successful candidate will have a proven track record of publications in leading journals
and be open to interdisciplinary cooperation. The ability to teach in German and/or
English language is expected. The candidate will preferably have a background in Swiss
tax law, or be prepared to develop a deeper knowledge of the Swiss tax law system
through independent study. Practical experience and excellent teaching evaluations are
advantageous but not essential. The University of St.Gallen is committed to promoting
